Donna,

We attended the first one and gave it front-page coverage.

Thank you
James Clark

p.s. Your letter WILL NOT be printed. You will find it's easier to get along with the local media if you stop taking swipes at us at every turn. It gets tiring

I want to thank everyone who attended the Warren County TEA Party on July 4. We had over 100 people attending. You missed a very uplifting and patriotic experience with the reading of the Declaration of Independence and 3 beautiful young ladies singing patriotic and inspirational songs. It's too bad the local media chose not to attend. They missed local citizens exercising their rights and freedoms. Isn't that what the Fourth of July and Independence Day is all about?

7/1/09 SOUTHERN STANDARD LETTER TO THE EDITOR: WARREN COUNTY SHOULD HAVE BETTER LEADERSHIP: TO THE EDITOR
I WOULD LIKE TO BORROW A FEW WORDS FROM MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.  "I HAVE A DREAM."  I ALSO HAVE A DREAM TO ELECT PEOPLE TO OFFICE IN WARREN COUNTY , PEOPLE WHO WILL WORK FOR THE COMMON EVERYDAY WHEEL GREASERS WHO KEEP OUR COUNTY AND CITY MOVING FORWARD, THE HARD-WORKING FOLKS WHO ARE THE BACKBONE OF OUR COUNTY.

WARREN COUNTY OFFICIALLY BEAME A COUNTY IN 1807.  SINCE THAT DATE, WARREN COUNTY HAS NEVER BEEN REPRESENTED BY ANY PARTY OTHER THAN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND A FEW WHO CALL THEMSELVES INDEPENDENT.  IN MY LIFETIME, THE PEOPLE OF WARREN COUNTY HAVE NOT HAD THE LEADERSHIP WE ALL DESERVE.  INDUSTRY HAS RELOCATED ELSEWHERE OR CEASED BUSINESS TO THE POINT THE DOORS WERE CLOSED FOREVER.

THE ENTIRE DOWNWARD SPIRAL HAS COME UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.  THINK BACK AT THE ADVERTISEMENTS THAT POP UP AROUND ELECTION TIME BY DEMOCRATS.  WE NEED JOBS, BETTER ROADS, AND BETTER SCHOOLS WITH THE LIST GOING ON AND ON.

WHERE ARE THE BETTER LIVING STANDARDS WITH GOOD JOBS?  WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR HARD-WORKING FOLKS WHO NOW WORK FOR LESS OR DRIVE OUT OF THE COUNTY FOR EMPLOYMENT?  ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN YOU WERE THE YEAR OUR 2009 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION CLASS WAS BORN?

IT IS NOW TIME TO END THE BAD JOKE.  WE NEED LEADERSHIP THAT HAS THE WILL TO WORK FOR ALL FOLKS OF WARREN COUNTY.  SO OFTEN WE VOTE FOR A RECOGNIZABLE NAME OR JUST BECAUSE THE PERSON RUNS ON THE DEMOCRAT TICKET.  WE HAVE PEOPLE IN OFFICE SPENDING OUR TAX MONEY WHO WERE IN OFFICE SPENDING OUR TAX MONEY YEARS BEFORE THE 2009 GRADUATION CLASS WAS BORN.

DEMAND TO SEE THE VOTING RECORDS OF ELECTED OFFICIALS YOU HELPED PUT IN OFFICE, SOME FOR MORE THAN A GENERATION.  YOU COULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN HOW YOUR ELECTED OFFICIAL VOTED.  YOU HAVE LONG-TIME OFFICE HOLDERS WHO DRAW A SALARY, ARE ELIGIBLE FOR COUNTY INSURANCE AND BUILDING A PENSION THEY WILL DRAW FROM OUR TAXES FOR LIFE.

THREE PROBLEMS SOLVERS WOULD BE TO LIMIT ELECTED OFFICIALS TO TWO TERMS, CUT THE PERSONAL PAY TO EXPENSES, AND HAVE ONE ELECTED OFFICIAL PER DISTRICT WHO WILL REPRESENT THE PEOPLE.  WE NEED TO ELECT FOLKS WITH AN ALTRUISTIC DESIRE TO WORK FOR THE WORKING PEOPLE OF OUR COUNTY.

WE NEED THE GRIT AND THE WILLPOWER TO VOTE THESE PEOPLE OUT OF OFFICE AND LEARN TO RECOGNIZE BOTH SIDES AND COMPARE THE DIFFERENCES OF THE REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION.  THROUGHOUT MY LIFE, I HAVE HEARD THE REPUBLICANS WERE FOR THE RICH AND THE DEMOCRATS WERE FOR THE WORKING MAN.  DO YOU WANT TO SUPPORT THE PERSON WITH BAD HABITS, THE PERSON THAT JUST WILL NOT WORK?

LOOK AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE BOTH PARTIES WITH PEOPLE WHO GO TO WORK EVERY DAY TO PAY THEIR BILLS.  YOU WILL ALSO SEE PEOPLE FROM BOTH PARTIES LIVING THE EASY LIFE.  REMEMBER 2010 IS THE TIME FOR A CHANGE IN WARREN COUNTY.  IT WOULD ALSO HELP IF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS VOTED THE DESIRE OF THE FOLKS THEY REPRESENT.

Great, the Industrial Development Board is getting another $1 million. How many millions does that make? Interest free loan! Loan means we the taxpayers still have to pay the money back. Yes, $600,000.00 a year for 4 years. My math says that is $2.4 million. How many jobs have we got for those millions of dollars? Seems like the Industrial Development Board Director's salary of $70,000.00 plus benefits far exceeds the total of all the alleged jobs he has brought into Warren County. Looks like this is a very poor investment for Warren County, but a very big windfall for the Industrial Development Board.  Donna Reid

What is the wheel tax?  Each year, every person who owns an automobile, has to get a license plate tag.  The cost is $24.50 for the state tax fee and $30.00 for the "Motor Vehicle Privilege Tax" or county wheel tax.  In 1991 the warren county commission voted to impose a $30.00 wheel tax.  The county commission voted the tax would expire and be removed when the high school was paid for.   The wheel tax money was to fund the new high school.  The high school will be paid for in 2012.  Should the wheel tax expire and be taken off (like they promised) or should the county commission extend the tax to fund something else they want?  The voters should be able to decide if the tax is extended, not 24 county commissioners.  If you agree, let your commissioners know how you feel.  Their names and numbers can be found on the county website www.warrencountytn.gov/
